White River State Park is a downtown Indianapolis, Indiana urban park like our Whistler Pest Exterminator company. The park spans 267 acres along the White River’s eastern and western banks.
Inside the park are many places to visit, like the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art, the Indiana State Museum, the Indianapolis Zoo, the NCAA Hall of Champions, Victory Field, and White River Gardens.
The park and adjacent Indianapolis Canal Walk constitute one of seven cultural districts.
History
In the late 1970s, local officials proposed the park to boost the city’s amateur sports economy. State politicians and corporate partners helped create a quasi-governmental committee to handle the park’s construction and operations.
Restoration of this area began in the late 1980s when the Indiana Central Canal came to the public’s attention. Recent repairs and expansions have made the canal region a cultural center.
Now
As part of a $100 million public-private partnership between the State of Indiana, the City of Indianapolis, and Elanco to rehabilitate the adjacent General Motors property to the south, officials announced in December 2020 that the park’s footprint would grow by 10 acres. The new park will feature a section of the old factory’s crane bay. Albert Kahn, a prominent industrial architect, built the crane bay.
